Avatar NFT collections explanation

Hey everyone.

Post was edited for polygon avatar mint.

Firstly i want to clarify what is different and what is similar in Harmony and in brand new Polygon avatar collections.

Similarities:

  1. Assets - most of the assets remaining the same (only suit colors and background a bit are different). Other species or new suit types are sadly delayed for an indefinite period of time.

  2. Professions and level system remains the same.

  3. Collection supply is also the same - 21.000.

Differences:

  1. Minting price - 90 pCLNY at the start. This price was voted by the community in an on-chain voting (more details here).

  2. Supply distribution - we will drop first batch of 7.000 pieces at the minting start but the other 14.000 we be distributed after bringing liquidity to the pCLNY (more information coming soon).

How to mint your avatar NFT

The tutorial is a bit long, so to make this post easier to digest I’ve made the sections expandable.

Just joking

It will be easy to mint if you’re not a bot:

  1. Firstly just enter the app https://polygon.marscolony.io
  2. Then go to the Play section of the sidebar menu
  3. Enter Avatars submenu on the top of the screen and click mint an avatar
  4. Once minting begins, then follow the onscreen instructions

To make amends for tricking you, I’ve decided to include some details you may or may not know about avatars in the section below.

What’s so special about avatars?

Everything.

To perform missions on Mars, you will need an avatar. Missions will launch in the weeks following avatar launch, but there’s no current ETA.

The rewards for missions are avatar XP, CLNY tokens and Utility Crates.

Leveling up

By completing missions, you will gain XP (experience points), which can be used to raise your avatar’s level. Levels as well as avatar rarity will have perks that have yet to be announced.

Rank

While your avatar’s level is determined by how much you play, your avatar’s rank is one of three main average rarity scores:

  1. Common, called “Cadet”, roughly 89% of avatars
  2. Rare, called “Explorer”, roughly 10% of avatars
  3. Legendary, called “Atlas”, roughly 1% of avatars

Rank is just an overarching rarity category at first, but will eventually be revealed to affect plot and gameplay in varying degrees.

Rarity

Exact rarity can be determined by how many pieces of gear your avatar has in its ranking category, meaning not all rares or legendaries will have the same rarity.

All Cadets are equipped with all common traits (gear), while Explorers get at minimum one piece or rare gear, and Atlas ranks get at least one piece of legendary gear.

The more gear of a rarity type your avatar has, the more rare it is in its category. Avatars can only get gear equal to or below their ranking, so Explorers will likely have a mix of rare and common gear, and legendaries can have any gear ranking with at least one legendary piece.

The luckiest of the lucky may receive a full set or rare or legendary gear, the pinnacle of avatar rarity.

Traits

Design-wise, we opted for more realistically-styled traits, to create more a immersive experience. For this reason, some traits may look somewhat similar while having completely different rarity and end-game function. You’ll still be able to tell the difference visually, of course.

There are three main styles of gear:

  • Tactical - These are light, maneuverable traits made for Martians in need of speed and mobility.

  • Ranger - These are safer, medium-armor kinds of traits designed for Martians that need to explore unfamiliar locations.

  • Operator - These are heavy-duty traits for Martians operating machinery or under harsh conditions.

Professions

Immediately, there aren’t playable professions for avatars. But, a wide (and ever-increasing) array of titles are assigned which hint at future gameplay and economies. I can’t share more than that for right now, but feel free to take guesses

Logistics

So, let’s say you’ve minted your NFT. The current secondary markets for Harmony chain avatars are NFTKey and TofuNFT
For Polygon chain we will also list avatar collection on NFTKey (link will be added soon) and some other marketplaces (more information will be also soon).

Minting is open to everyone, and landowners do not get any special access or guarantees of minting. There’s also no locks on amount of avatars per wallet. Good luck!
